We learned that the group NBCU (broadcaster of RAW and NXT in the United States) and FOX (broadcaster of SmackDown) were very discreet about the future of WWE on their network for the next season 2023-24.
For FOX, no mention of WWE in their programming, and for NBCU, just a mention and nothing more.
A strategy that launches uncertainty about the future of WWE on these two television channels. Several hours later, the PWInsider obtained more details on the subject and we learn that WWE is exploring the various options for the broadcast of RAW and SmackDown.
WWE had a private and exclusive period to give FOX and NBCU the chance to negotiate a new contract, but that period has ended and no new contract has been signed. This means that WWE can discuss with other networks or media groups for the acquisition of TV rights for its shows in the United States. An open door that allows you to see the different offers that WWE could receive.
Information that explains why FOX and NBCU have made the decision to keep WWE under the radar of their programming since the end of the contract which is approaching could be final if WWE (and its new group Endeavor) decides to choose a new broadcasting slot.
Former WWE Superstar Zach Gowen spoke recently in an interview with MLive along with Matt Durr. Gowen recounts his more or less surprising first meeting with Hulk Hogan, just before the May 15, 2003 episode of SmackDown. Zach Gowen tells us:
“Hulk Hogan got out of the shower and he was only wearing a towel and flip flops but the towel wasn’t wrapped around his waist. It was wrapped around his neck. He walks right up to me completely naked and says, “How are you? Nice to meet you my brother. And I say, “Thank you for ruining my childhood.” Nice to meet you…” And that was my first hour as a WWE Superstar. »
