POLIGNY – Slovenian cyclist Matej Mohorič from the Bahrain-Victorious team triumphed in Friday’s 19th stage of the Tour de France from Moirans-en-Montagne to Poligny.

The winner was confirmed only by the finish photo, in which Mohorič was just ahead of the Dane Kasper Asgreen. The Soudalu-QuickStep rider was close to a second consecutive victory. The third place was taken by Ben O’Connor from the AG2R Citroën team. The peloton reached the finish line with a deficit of more than thirteen minutes, but nothing changed in the overall standings, and Jonas Vingegaard (Jumbo-Visma) remained in the lead.

Slovak Peter Sagan (TotalEnergies) finished in 149th place. “I tried to break away from the start and then it got a bit in my legs. After the descent it tore, I was a bit behind and it split.” said Sagan after the 19th stage to RTVS.

He would prefer if he could already be in Paris: “I’m glad it’s almost over. Just survive tomorrow and it’s okay” the Slovak cyclist honestly admitted immediately after the end of the stage.
