President Vladimir Zelensky predicts that soon the Ukrainian counter-offensive will begin to “gain momentum”, as the military personnel are already passing through some difficult locations and demining them. About this he said speaking via video link at the Aspen Security Forum.
“I would say that we are approaching the moment when appropriate actions can gain momentum, because we are already going through some places of mines and demining these areas,” Zelensky said.
He noted that the counter-offensive was progressing more slowly than originally thought, because the operation began later than planned.
“We did not want to lose our people, our personnel and our servicemen, we did not want to lose equipment, and therefore we were quite cautious about offensive actions,” he said.
Zelensky noted that there were plans to launch a counter-offensive in the spring, but then there was not enough ammunition, weapons and brigades properly trained in handling these weapons.
“Because we started a little late, you can say – and this is the truth that all experts share – it gave Russia time to mine all our land and build several lines of defense,” the president said.
Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valery Zaluzhny in an interview with WP, he said that the Ukrainian offensive is not a show, during it every meter of land conquered is given in blood. US General Mark Milley said the Ukrainian counter-offensive is “far from failure” despite being “slower” than expected. He stressed that Ukraine still has significant forces in reserve.
