For Mežak, this will be the first step to prepare for next year’s round of the World Rally Championship in Latvia. If the athlete concludes that he can drive fast enough, the goal is to continue what he started and find an opportunity to participate in the Latvian WRC competition in 2024.
“Raimonds Strokšs and RA Events are to blame for all this, with their persistence and purposefulness,” says Matīss Mežaks. “When we found out that the WRC stage will be held in Latvia in 2024, both of us with the driver Arni Roni decided that we should also try to realize our undreamed-of dream – participation in the WRC. The “Cēsis” rally is the first test step, first of all, for ourselves – whether we can still drive fast with an all-wheel drive car, because I can’t participate only after participating – if I drive, then at least so that we don’t feel ashamed! If the answer is “YES!”, then it will be a thorough effort must be made to find like-minded people and supporters to finance this ambitious goal, but more on that later.”
The last time the Mežak/Roņa crew competed together was last year in the “Cēsis” rally, when they won in their class with a BMW car. In 2003 and 2005, athletes with “Ford Escort WRC” won the absolute competition of the “Cēsis” rally.
“We will drive the Škoda Fabia Rally2 car of the SRT team in the “Cēsis” rally,” says the experienced pilot. “The plan is to treat this rally as a test and find a common language with the car and the Sports Racing Technologies team.”
