Much of the discussion surrounding Microsoft’s $68.7 billion acquisition of Activision Blizzard King revolves around how it will affect consumers. We rarely hear from other publishers and game developers, but Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot has now shared his thoughts on the merger.
Guillemot said on the earnings call: “I think it’s good news that the deal went through because it really shows the power of IP and where the industry is headed. Therefore, there will be many opportunities for all companies in the future.
“It also shows the value of IP, which can now be on console and PC, but also on mobile, and become more of a global brand – and when we say global, it’s really everywhere – it’s a fantastic opportunity.
To complement that and touch on the combined King and Mobile parts further, Guillemot said: “Microsoft said the mobile part of the Activision deal was important, so all of our investments to become stronger in mobile fit in with that, so all of these factors will help the value of the company grow.
Ubisoft is one publisher that isn’t afraid to venture into the mobile gaming market, as it appears to have launched Assassin’s Creed Codename Jade, The Division Resurgence, and Rainbow Six Mobile this fiscal year alone.
