Vestfold Intermunicipal Fire Service Warns About Fire Hazards and the Importance of Pulling Out Plugs

The fire service is often out and warns people about various fire traps. This time it is the Vestfold Intermunicipal Fire Service that is warning.

– The residents were woken up and saved by smoke alarms when a hand mixer started burning on the kitchen counter, says fire chief Thomas Nordby in a Facebook posts.

Don’t have it here!

Was connected to the socket

The hand blender was used last night and the plug was left in the socket. For some reason, the mixer has started to burn. Fortunately, the family had a working smoke alarm as a reminder, and so did the family’s dog, Nordby continues.

According to the fire service, the family woke up suddenly and discovered that there were open flames in the kitchen. The fire was extinguished before the fire brigade arrived with a powder fire extinguisher.

Clear message

“It may seem to us that products such as hairdryers, hand blenders, toasters, irons etc. are more often exposed to fire. The fires are often caused by a short circuit, or an arc on the wire, but of course there is also a technical fault with the product. The cord on several of the mentioned products twists and turns, over time this can lead to breaks or errors,” they write further in the Facebook post.

Therefore, it is safest to pull out the plug. This applies to all electrical appliances that are not in use.

It is not the first time that DinSide has written about the fact that you should pull out the plug when the product is not in use.

Last spring, DinSide wrote about a charger that had burn marks in the cable, and it was also very hot. This happened while the charger was connected to the socket.

In another case earlier this year, Frende warned insurance after a mobile phone exploded while charging. In a survey carried out by the insurance company, more than half of all Norwegians charge their mobile phones in the bedroom at night.
