Logitech MX Keys S and MX Master 3S Combo: A High-Quality Keyboard and Mouse Package

Logitech’s keyboard and mouse package is really high quality.

A good keyboard and an equally good mouse are important for those who sit in front of the computer for a long time, especially considering the ergonomics. Bad products can lead to painful problems. Logitech’s MX Keys S Combo package consists of the MX Keys S keyboard and the MX Master 3S mouse. Both can also be purchased separately, but the package is much more wallet-friendly.

Installation

Mouse and keyboard support Windows, Mac, Android, Linux, Chromebook, iPhone and iPad (for full compatibility see below).

Both products can be connected in two ways. Either with a Logi Bolt USB receiver that connects via a free USB port, or via Bluetooth. Three devices can be connected simultaneously. It can be two computers and a tablet. You quickly switch between these units. There are three buttons on the keyboard, which makes switching super fast, while on the mouse you switch with a button on the underside.

Both MX Keys S and MX Master 3S are wireless. They are charged via a USB-C cable. With lighting, the keyboard works around ten days on a full charge. My experience is that it is quite accurate. Without lighting, the battery lasts up to five months. The mouse can be used up to 70 days on a single charge.

Keyboard MX Keys S

The Logitech keyboard is very comfortable to type on. Since it is not a keyboard for gaming, the MX Keys S is less suitable for that purpose. The ergonomics are almost perfect. The only thing is that the tilt cannot be adjusted. It suited me perfectly, but the need is extremely individual.

The keys are low and of the same type as on laptops. However, the stroke height is slightly higher than on a normal laptop. The resistance of the keys is, in my opinion, just right hard. The MX Keys S have keys that are slightly hollowed out in the middle, which makes them comfortable to type on. The keys are also relatively quiet, which is pleasant.

The MX Keys S has a loose palm rest that rests firmly on the desk and thus does not slide. The fact that it is loose is actually positive for me as I placed it about two centimeters from the keyboard. The palm rest is softly padded, but is slightly sharp at the edges.

As with most of today’s keyboards, the F1 to F12 keys have dual functions. Partly the classic F functions. Partly special functions such as multimedia and brightness adjustment. Other special features include a smiley key and a key to quickly mute the microphone. Among the extra functions are also quick access to screen clippings, calculator, open menu, lock screen and more.

Because MX Keys S Combo fits both Windows and Mac, several keys on MX Keys S have symbols for both operating systems, which can certainly be confusing for some.

The keyboard has a white backlight, which means that you can see the characters even in dim lighting.

Musen MX Master 3S

It is noticeable that Logitech spent development resources on the ergonomics. The MX Master 3S is a mouse that fits perfectly in my hand. I should mention that I use the finger grip where I grip the mouse with my fingers – the palm does not rest on the mouse. The palm grip fits just as well. However, the MX Master 3S is not adapted for those who use the claw grip where the fingers form a claw.

The MX Master 3S has some odd details, mainly in the form of a hidden button and an extra wheel. At the thumb, in addition to two thumb buttons, there is an extra wheel. The wheel can have different functions in different programs/apps, for example scrolling sideways and zooming.

Under the thumb is a tongue-like part on which the thumb rests. The tongue also has a built-in button that is not visible. Don’t worry, even though my thumb rests on the button, during the weeks I’ve been using the mouse I haven’t managed to press the button by mistake. The button is rather on the hardest side and is therefore in need of improvement. This special button has a slightly odd behavior. One press can, for example, pause/start the music. Hold down the button and you get so-called gestures. The mouse then provides different functions depending on which direction you move the mouse. For example, it can be different media functions such as volume up and down and changing songs.

Behind the mouse wheel is a small button. With it, you change the wheel position from the wheel behaving “normally” with soft notches to a lightning fast position where there are no notches.

Logi Options+

The Logi Options+ app (Windows and MacOS) enables customization of Logitech mice, keyboards and more. You can, for example, change the functions of certain buttons and keys. On the MX Keys S keyboard, there are quite a few keys that can be programmed. These include F1 – F12. On the MX Master 3S, all buttons, except for the two big ones (right, left), as well as gestures and the thumb wheel are programmable. There are, for example, functions such as Emoji, keyboard shortcuts (eg Ctrl + C), screenshot and play/pause music.

You can create automated commands yourself with Smart Actions, which can be compared to an extended macro function. This way you don’t have to do the same thing over and over again and instead just press a button on the mouse or a key on the keyboard. It saves time and is much more fun. For example, you can quickly type a certain phrase or execute a system command.

Another example is that you can perform a certain action in a specific application. This function is poorly developed. There are a number of actions in some of Microsoft’s own apps as well as Chrome, but there could definitely be more. In the majority of programs and apps, including some of Microsoft’s own such as Outlook, there are unfortunately very few possible actions.

In addition to the mentioned functions, you can create schedules for different programs and apps where you give the keyboard keys and mouse buttons and wheels different functions depending on which program or app you are working in.

Flow is an interesting feature. With it, you can easily drag content with the mouse from one device to another, which is very useful.

Conclusion

Both mouse and keyboard in the Logitech MX Keys S Combo package are of the highest quality. It is an excellent peripheral for all kinds of desktop tasks. Since we at GameElite test a lot of gaming hardware, it’s good for you to know that the MX Keys S and MX Master 3S are not the best in the gaming world, even if they can be used. Logitech has really put a lot of resources into the development of the mouse and keyboard, but I would have liked to have seen that it was possible to adjust the tilt of the keyboard and that the special button on the mouse’s tongue had been better.
