The 28-year-old outperformed Denmark’s Kasper Asgren, winner of Thursday’s stage, in the final, covering the 173 km distance between Moran-en-Montagne and Boulogne, with a time of 3:31.02 hours, while Australian Ben O’Connor came in third, 4 seconds behind.
This is Mohoric’s third victory in the French Tour, after he had previously won the seventh and nineteenth stages of the 2021 edition, but he had to wait some time to celebrate this victory as a result of crossing the finish line next to Asgreen.
Despite finishing the intermediate mountain stage in thirty-seventh place, 13.43 minutes behind the winner, Vingegaard kept the same difference that separates him at the top of the general standings from his other Slovenian pursuit, Tadi Bogachar, because the latter recorded the same time and finished the stage in forty-second place.
Wengaard stayed in front of Bogachar by 7.35 minutes, two days before the end of the tour, which moves on Saturday to the penultimate twentieth stage, which extends for a distance of 133.5 km, before entering the final stage on Sunday, which extends between Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines and the Champs-Elysées in the capital, Paris, for a distance of 155 km.
