A photo was posted on Twitter that posted a sign saying that a junior high school student was being harassed by a McDonald’s store in Sagamihara, Kanagawa Prefecture, and was banned from going in and out.
The vice-principal of the municipal junior high school, who was named, said he knew about the poster, but explained to the interviewer, “After receiving a call from the store, the staff went to give guidance to the students.” A spokesperson for McDonald’s Japan said in an interview that the message was displayed after consultation with the junior high school and the police station.

“I received a call from the store, and the staff went and instructed the students.”
A photo of this sign was posted on Twitter on July 20, 2023.
It was pasted on a place like a window, titled “Dear customers,” thanking them for using the store and notifying junior high school students of the strict content.
The notice stated, “Regarding the nuisance of junior high school students in the store, it may cause inconvenience to other customers and may be dangerous to store staff.”
The post on Twitter has received more than 50,000 likes, and the photo has gone viral, making it a hot topic as to what the junior high school student did.
The vice-principal of the named junior high school responded to an interview with J-CAST News on the 21st, saying, “I am aware that a notice was posted at the store.”
“Last year, the store contacted us that a student was making noise in the store, and the staff rushed over to give guidance to the noisy student. Police officers at the police box also responded.During the last year, we also received notices that the students were prohibited from entering the store.I noticed that the sign was posted at the store a month or two ago.The store will make a decision, but I think it is still prohibited.”
“I gave life guidance before summer vacation and called for people to follow the rules of how to use the store.”
On the Internet, there was a post about a six-month-old word-of-mouth about the store saying that a sign had been put up at the entrance of the store, and that students were not allowed to enter. According to the reports, the junior high school students appeared at the store during examination periods, stayed there and shouted loudly, and brought in lunch boxes without ordering them.
In response, the vice-principal said that although he had heard that the students had caused trouble, he said, “I would like to refrain from answering the specifics, as there is a risk that this may lead to the identification of the individual.” He said he didn’t know if the staff at the store ever felt unsafe, as the sign said.
Regarding school students, he said, “I gave life guidance before summer vacation and called on them to follow the rules of store usage and greetings.”
In an interview on July 21, the Sagamihara City Board of Education’s School Education Division explained, “The school has confirmed the nuisance, and once we know the details, we will respond according to the situation.”
“I posted it after consulting with the school and the police, but now the wording has been changed.”
On July 21st, McDonald’s Japan’s public relations department confirmed that the poster had been posted since January 13th, and explained to the interview as follows.
“Currently, we have partially changed the posted content. This is because there were problems with the way the store was used that caused inconvenience to other customers and the behavior of employees.”
Regarding what kind of nuisance the junior high school student had, he said, “We have received reports that there were problems with the way the store was used, such as behavior that caused trouble for other customers and behavior with employees.
After consulting with the junior high school and the police station about the poster, the store said, “Since the head office did not know the contents in advance, we will re-examine the wording with the store and post it again.”
