– We don’t have control, it will be a while until we do, says fire chief Jan Røilid in the Kristiansand region fire and rescue.
The police received a report about the fire at around 14:00 on Friday afternoon.
The fire is said to have started in a solar panel on a roof and spread further. It will now burn on three roofs. Two of the buildings are likely to be completely damaged, according to the fire service.
– We won’t get to. It is like splashing water on an umbrella when there is a fire under the umbrella, says Røilid.
He also believes there will be damage to the third housing unit.
There should be no people inside any of the affected housing units.
Operations leader Alexander Gorman says that the evacuees are not injured by the smoke.
Too dangerous to send in crew
The fire has spread to the interior of two of the housing units. The fire brigade cannot send in crews.
– It is too dangerous to send people in when the roof can fall down, says Røilid.
The fire brigade has struggled to extinguish the fire from the ground. Around 2.30 pm, a lift is in place and will make the extinguishing work faster.
Have dialogue with neighbors
The smoke from the fire blows towards a care home nearby where people stay.
– We have ongoing dialogue with the neighbors who stay in the house. If smoke should get in, they get out easily.
Those living in the care home have been told to close the ventilation system.
