(Seoul = Yonhap News) Reporter Lee Mi-ryeong and Lee Yul-lip = On the 21st, during work hours at Gangnam Station on the Seoul subway, there was a report that there was a concern about a stampede accident, so the police were dispatched and some exits were controlled.
According to the Seoul Gangnam Police Station, a report was received at around 5:47 pm on the same day, “There are too many people at Gangnam Station, so a stampede accident is likely to happen. It seems to be stopped.”
Safety personnel from the Seoul Transportation Corporation urgently took care of the crowd, and the police and fire authorities were also dispatched.
The fire department controlled the entrance to Exit 12 in the direction of Yeoksam Station and deployed personnel to the remaining exits to prevent crowds from concentrating. The ticket gate in the direction of Gyodae Station, where there are many subway users, also dispersed the crowd.
By 7:00 p.m., all police and fire authorities had withdrawn and there were no casualties. A police official said, “The crowd was not very different from the usual Fridays on the way home from work.”
