Tromsø manager Gaute Helstrup (47) extends his contract with the elite league club and thus puts an end to the Lillestrøm rumours.

The club confirms this at a press conference on Friday afternoon.
Helstrup has signed an agreement that extends to the 2025 season.
– We are incredibly happy to have such skilled professionals involved in the further agreement. There are perhaps two of the best football coaches in the country. Ever since Gaute came in 2020, there has been a big development from the 1st division, says sporting director Lars Petter Andressen.
Assistant coach Jørgen Vik also extends his contract with Tromsø IL.
Tromsø is in fourth place in the Eliteserien after 14 games played, two points behind runners-up Viking.
– I think there have been some good weeks lately, but it has been some good years now, Helstrup opens at the press conference and continues:
– We now have a starting point for the autumn which is incredibly exciting. We see a group of players who are incredibly motivated and work incredibly well on a daily basis.

This is possibly a setback for the yellow and black at Romerike. Lillestrøm is looking for a new head coach after Geir Bakke left for arch-rival Vålerenga. Chairman of Lillestrøm – Morten Kokkim – said the following recently about Helstrup:
– He doesn’t fit in awkwardly, so to speak. He fits well with what we want to do here, he told TV 2.
