The Italian city of Mantua has announced that it is looking for new residents. The municipality offered a contribution of EUR 150 per month for one year to those moving to a city located in the Italian region of Lombardy.
According to Mayor Mattia Palazzi, the aim is to “attract new residents and at the same time try to help renovate the many empty houses in the city that are often neglected by their owners”.
To increase the number of residents in the city, the local council decided to allocate EUR 400,000 (EUR 200,000 from September 2023 and another EUR 200,000 next year) to fund 100 applications each year.
Families and individuals can participate in the new tenant scheme, which will be announced in June 2023. The scheme will target professionals with salaries of around EUR 1,200-1,500 per month, who will need to sign a tenancy agreement for at least one year. The income threshold has not yet been determined.
“There will be many new job offers in the next 2 years,” assured the mayor. There are several companies that invest and manufacture in Mantua, especially in the logistics sector. In addition to the port of Valdaro, the growth of several companies is reported, including Adidas, Corneliani (now expanding after the crisis), Opto Engineering and MyNet, which employ young people.
