In the southern counties of Florida, the endless queues persist, even at dawn, to renew the driver’s license.
The places with the biggest traffic jams are Miami-Dade and Broward. Faced with such a scenario, many prefer to camp just outside the offices.
A recent report from Local 10 revealed that a critical situation is taking place at the Pembroke Pines Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) office.
The phenomenon of queues to carry out this type of procedure has reached the point of constantly keeping the police activated. The agents monitor the scene to avoid extraordinary events from the already famous lines.
Only 60 walk-ins each day
Those interested in renewing their driver’s license must make an appointment. However, the officials who carry out the process allow access to 60 people who do not have a shift for that day. Hence, the long queues are formed, most try to do their business without a reservation.
The queues at dawn can number up to 150 or more people and less than half can “resolve” their paperwork as established by the office.
“When the limit is reached, an agent reports that there are no vacancies for that day. Then you have to stay in line to see if there is any luck the next day”, commented an interested party who traveled from Westchester.
Causes and conditions
Experts on issues of this nature point out that the main cause of the phenomenon is the current population growth in Florida.
The offices have even extended their working hours to try to meet the demand, but they have not succeeded. In Miami-Dade and Broward, the DMV has opened a few additional locations that provide service on Saturdays.
The DMV authorities insist that it is much more viable to obtain an appointment online or by phone. However, users complain that it is not easy to get a turn through these routes, which is why they go to the physical queue.
