Parade on July 20 with patriotic sentiment • La Nación

The people of Huila, like the Colombians, yesterday demonstrated their patriotic feeling and respect for their military and police forces. Nearly 300 men from the different military and police units that operate in the department marched through the main roads of the Huilense capital, in the traditional parade to commemorate the 213th anniversary of Independence Day in Colombia.

Just after 10 in the morning, yesterday Thursday, the great parade of July 20 began in the capital of Huila, led by the new generations, of soldiers and policemen who dress in honor every day to fulfill the constitutional mission of guaranteeing the life, honor and property of Colombians.

The Neivanos and Huilenses were protagonists in the foreground who patiently waited for the passage of each military and police unit, as well as the educational institutions of the capital of Huila that linked up with their peace bands.

As each military or police unit and the support groups from the schools passed by, the attendees received them with applause and expressions of affection. The children wanted to take photos with the soldiers and policemen.

The opening of the parade was in charge of the Command Group paying tribute to the homeland, an honor that was entrusted to the Ninth Brigade of the National Army, followed by the different units, with the presence of women who fulfill different roles in the armed forces and Police.

The canine handlers, pairs trained in people rescue, anti-narcotics and anti-explosives, had a special welcome; representation with which homage was also paid to ‘Wilson’, the four-legged hero who was decisive in achieving Operation Hope. The humanitarian deminers also received applause, the same ones that in Baraya, Huila, were attacked by a group of Farc dissidents.

The National Army, the National Police, the Colombian Air Force, the Navy, INPEC, the Civil Defense, the Fire Department and educational institutions were part of the parade.

The polka dots: the parade was ‘fractured’ and there were huge potholes along the route; the disorder of the people who invaded the tracks and the extensiveness since it lasted four hours.

Some moments of the parade captured by Sergio Reyes.
