Civilian traffic will disappear from Chopin Airport

The binding strategic documents in the field of transport did not prejudge this issue, thus SKRM’s decision ultimately determines the termination of commercial operations of Warsaw Chopin Airport upon the operational launch of the ‘Solidarity’ Airport – explained.

– This decision has already been signaled during the discussion on the consequences of the implementation of the Central Communication Port. However, this is not a decision that will be implemented on a specific date, on a set date. It will certainly be a process, argues Jerzy Polaczek, Member of Parliament, in an interview with the wnp.pl portal PiS and former Minister of Transport.

– The airport at Okęcie and flying from it is the most popular in Poland. How can you close something that is most often chosen by Poles? This is some misunderstanding. The capital, like London, should have its own airport. This infrastructure in Warsaw must be further used for civilian flights, argues Dariusz Joński, PO MP, who chairs the parliamentary air transport subcommittee.

Construction of the STH

STH will be built 37 km west of Warsaw. In the area of approx. 3 thousand. ha, an airport is to be built, which in the first stage, it will be able to handle up to 40 million passengers a year.

The STH will also include railway investments: a junction in the immediate vicinity of the airport and connections throughout the country, which will enable travel between Warsaw and the largest Polish cities in no more than 2.5 hours.

The port is to be launched in 2028. together with a railway junction and a section of the High Speed Railway Warsaw – Łódź. The rest of the CPK railway investments are planned until the middle of the next decade.
