You do NOT want to plant these plants in your garden in case of hay fever

The hay fever season is in full swing – and fortunately almost over – which means that half of the Netherlands regularly sniffles. Fortunately, when it comes to decorating your garden, you can take that irritating hay fever into account, because there is a list of plants that you should not plant in case of (all kinds of) allergies. JAN lists the most important trees, plants and shrubs for you:

American poplar
Birch Beech Knotweed Oak Ash Aspen Juniperus Tree of Life Poplar Willow Black alder

Finally, the types of grass that cause the most allergy symptoms:

Bahia Hand Grass Fescue Smooth Meadow Grass

So what can you plant – with the least risk of symptoms? “We recommend plants that only use insects to pollinate,” tells Melanie Carver of the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America. These include the viola, geranium, lobelia, begonia, impatiens, daylilies, avens and heuchera. “Their pollen grains are much heavier and don’t move through the air as easily.” Enough choice!
