Jr. NBA Holds Basketball Camp and 5×5 Tournament in Thailand

The National Basketball Association (NBA) announced today that Jr. NBA, a world-class youth basketball program for young men and women. Has visited Thailand again and held a Jr. NBA camp on Friday 21 July – Sunday 23 July and the Jr. NBA 5×5 tournament on Friday 28 July – Wednesday 2 August at Rachawinit Bangkaew School. The 5×5 will be the first Jr. NBA tournament to feature teams from six countries across East Asia: Thailand, Philippines, Laos, Singapore, Malaysia and Taiwan.

Within the camp, free of charge for youth, 120 young men and women will train to develop key skills and compete in 5×5 tournaments featuring men and women in the Under-13, Under-15 and Under-18 groups. The winning men’s and women’s teams from each age group advance to 5×5 competitions, competing in their respective age groups against teams from across the region. The winning team will receive trophies and other special prizes.

Jim Wong, Vice President of International Partnerships, NBA Asia said, “We are thrilled that the Jr. NBA is returning to Thailand. And create opportunities for Thai youth to showcase their skills and compete with players from all over East Asia. Expanding the 5×5 tournament is a big step for our program. and continue our efforts to drive youth participation in basketball in Thailand and across the region.”

Since its launch in 2014, the Jr. NBA program has reached and developed the skills of over two million young men and women across Thailand by teaching them the fundamental skills and core values ​​of the game: sportsmanship. teamwork Positive Attitude and Respect (STAR) by the Jr. NBA Coaches Academy, a government-sponsored initiative to advance local basketball. It sets standards, guidelines and best practices for youth coaches. The initiative has trained over 6,300 teachers from over 4,100 schools in 14 cities across the country: Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Hat Yai, Lampang, Trang and Udon Thani.
