The Collapse of Stadium Wall in Bengkulu Province Raises Public Concern During President Jokowi’s Visit

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – Uploads on social media about the collapse of the stadium wall in Kepahiang Regency, Bengkulu Province became a public discussion because it was associated with the arrival of President Joko Widodo in the area.

The upload was published by the Instagram account @undercover.id on Wednesday (19/7/2023).

In the upload, it says “The parapet of the mini stadium, Pasang Lekat Kepahiang, which was just built with a budget of Rp. 700, also collapsed because of the wind from the Jokowi team helicopter”.

The upload was also accompanied by a video of a stadium wall collapsing in a gust of wind from a helicopter that landed in a field.

This upload received tens of thousands of likes and more than 2,000 netizen comments.

In response to this, Deputy for Protocol, Press and Media at the Presidential Secretariat Bey Machmudin said the helicopter was carrying out a landing test on Tuesday (18/7/2023).

“The landing test was carried out as a preparatory effort if the President uses a helicopter during his working visit to Kepahiang Regency, Bengkulu Province,” Bey said in a written statement to journalists, Friday (21/7/2023).

“However, during a visit to Kepahiang Regency, Thursday (20/7/2023), the President used the road, did not use a helicopter,” he said.

Meanwhile, regarding the collapse of the stadium wall, Bey stated that the President had asked for repairs.

“Mr President has ordered the Minister of PUPR to immediately carry out repairs. Even though the helicopter landing is according to standards, it is within a safe distance of 50-70 meters from the nearest building,” he said.

Meanwhile, President Jokowi and Mrs. Iriana Jokowi have been in Bengkulu since Wednesday (19/7/2023) for a working visit.

On this Friday, the Head of State and the First Lady are still in Bengkulu to carry out a number of activities, including reviewing the market revitalization plan as well as handing over a number of social assistance to traders at Purwodadi Market, North Bengkulu.

Next, President Jokowi will head to Gardu Village, North Bengkulu Regency, to inspect the Kerkap-Tanjung Agung Pali Inpres Road.

In the afternoon, President Jokowi will perform Friday prayers at a mosque in Bengkulu City.

After the entire series of events is over, President Jokowi and Mrs. Iriana will head to Fatmawati Soekarno Airport, Bengkulu City, to then take off for Jakarta using the Indonesia-1 presidential plane.
