Russia’s Ministry of Defense announced on Wednesday that Russia will consider ships in the Black Sea en route to Ukraine as potential carriers of military cargo from Thursday. It also stated that the country whose flag the ship flies will be considered involved in the war on the side of Ukraine.
The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine emphasized that Russia has once again grossly violated the universal right to free navigation for the whole world and is deliberately undermining food security, leading to starvation of millions of people.
“Openly threatening civilian ships transporting food products from Ukrainian ports, carrying out rocket fire and drone attacks on civilian infrastructure in peaceful cities, deliberately creating military threats on trade routes, the Kremlin has turned the Black Sea into a risk zone primarily for Russian ships and ships that go to Russian sea ports and Ukrainian sea ports in the Black Sea waters, which are located in the territory of Ukraine currently occupied by Russia. Full responsibility for all risks rests on the Russian leadership,” the Ukrainian Defense Ministry said in a statement.
The Ministry noted that the fate of the cruiser “Moskva” proves that the Defense Forces of Ukraine have the necessary means to counter Russian aggression at sea.
