Timothy Weah Joins Juventus: Cuadrado’s Departure and Inspiration

(ANSA) – TURIN, JULY 20 – The Franco-American Timothy Weah, who arrived at Juventus to join a defense that will no longer include Juan Cuadrado, Inter’s brand new reinforcement, affirmed that the Colombian “is a legend and also my inspiration”.
“I played last season in the position he usually occupies and I felt comfortable, although I can adapt to doing it in any position in defense,” said the former Paris Saint-Germain and Glasgow Celtic player who joined Massimiliano Allegri’s team from Lille.
The son of the legendary striker for Manchester City, Olympique de Marseille, Monaco, Chelsea, Milan and Paris Saint-Germain and today the president of Liberia, George Weah, assured that he had playing characteristics similar to those of Cuadrado and recognized that “taking his place will be a huge responsibility”.
“I am very happy to play for Juventus. It is a blessing for me and for my family and I thank the club for this opportunity, for which I am honored,” he added during his official presentation at the Allianz Stadium in Turin.
“Coming to Juventus was very simple and I immediately accepted when I received the offer because my goal is to try to make history at this great club, of which my father, who always supported me, is a fan, although that is just a coincidence,” he clarified.
Weah was also impressed by the Juventus coach and commented that “as soon as I met Allegri, I understood that he is a great human being. He is a coach who is always attentive to everyone in training and advised me to have fun and be ready for any possible scenario. I know that Serie A is a difficult championship and that the competition will be fierce,” he explained.
Regarding the choice of the number 22 jersey that he will wear at Juventus, Weah commented: “It’s an old story that has to do with two events: the first is that my birth day (May 22, 2000, Ndr) and also because it’s the first number my mom gave me when I started playing football.”
Juventus also confirmed today the renewal of the contract of 19-year-old midfielder Fabio Miretti until 2027 and stated that “he is a ductile, intelligent and constantly growing player, capable of adapting to any situation, which is why the extension of his bond confirms our confidence in his talent”.
In the opposite direction, who is also moving away from the Turin club is the Brazilian midfielder Arthur Melo, about to join Fiorentina, with whom he negotiated his arrival on a loan with a charge (two million euros) with a purchase option of 20 million and whose contract will be paid in equal parts by both clubs.
