Russian astronomer Nikolai Zheleznyov, senior researcher at the Institute of Applied Astronomy of the Russian Academy of Sciences, does not rule out that asteroids will bring new forms of life to Earth.
And the scientist indicates, in an interview with the Russian Novosti News Agency, that asteroids do not necessarily carry living organisms, but rather molecular compounds that develop on Earth into new forms of life.
In response to a question in this regard, he says: “Of course, nothing can be denied.”
According to him, there is still no 100 percent certainty that at least some single-celled life has appeared on Earth with the help of asteroids.
And he adds: In fact, traces of life were not found in many of the meteorites fragments that fell to Earth, but scientists found in them the “building blocks” of amino acids, which allows the assumption of the presence of complex molecular compounds in asteroids.
The scientist points out that one of the hypotheses for the origin of life on Earth is that water was brought to Earth by comets, and that it may have contained molecular compounds that later evolved into single-celled organisms.
