NASA has released a snapshot of a galaxy that survived a supernova explosion. The photo was taken by the Hubble Space Telescope.
What is known
The object photographed is a spiral galaxy, like the Milky Way. It is called UGC 11860 and is located in the constellation Pegasus at a distance of 184 million light years from our planet. The photo clearly shows the arms stretching from the center of the galaxy.
The NASA space agency reports that UGC 11860 was recently able to survive an unimaginably powerful stellar explosion. The supernova explosion was traced thanks to the remnants of gas and dust that were ejected during the explosion. Judging by how the galaxy looks in the image, it is now in a relatively stable state.
It is worth noting that NASA published a snapshot of UGC 11860 nine years after receiving the data. Hubble observed the spiral galaxy in the constellation Pegasus back in 2014 using an instrument called Wide Field Camera 3.
