Current fuel prices in the Czech Republic: Diesel and Gasoline at Highest Levels in Over Two Months

The current price of diesel is the highest in the last two and a half months. Gasoline, which was last more expensive at the end of April, is in a similar situation. This is according to data from CCS, which tracks prices. In the following days, according to analysts, fuel prices could remain without significant changes, but in the longer term they expect a rise in prices.

According to Purple Trading analyst Petr Lajsko, despite the slight increase in prices in recent days, the scenarios of a massive increase in margins, which was expected at the beginning of the summer, did not come true. At the same time, however, he pointed out that since the beginning of the month, oil prices have been rising quite significantly on world markets due to concerns about its shortage. According to Lajesko, the price is negatively affected by the weakening Czech crown.

According to Lajesko, fuel prices could remain unchanged in the coming days as well, but he expects them to rise afterwards. “By the end of the holidays, gasoline and diesel could become more expensive by a few tens of pennies,” he said. However, he warns against further increases in the price of oil, which would lead to a more significant increase in fuel prices. In this context, he mentions, for example, the impact of sanctions on Russia, possible hurricanes in the USA and a possible further reduction in production by the OPEC cartel.

Even XTB analyst Tomáš Cverna is not too optimistic about the medium-term outlook. He predicts a further increase in the price of oil and wholesale prices on the exchange in Rotterdam. “The prices of gasoline and diesel, which determine the prices on the domestic market, are the highest they have been in the last three months,” he pointed out. According to Cverna, another negative factor will be the weakening crown.

The cheapest fuel is filled by drivers in the South Bohemian region, where a liter of gasoline costs 36.95 crowns on average. They sell diesel there for an average of 32 crowns.

On the contrary, the most expensive fuel is offered by pumps in Prague. A liter of gasoline costs an average of 38.38 crowns in the capital. Diesel is refueled there for 34.12 crowns per liter.

Fuel prices in the Czech Republic have been rising slowly since the end of May. Gasoline growth almost stopped at the end of June, diesel prices continued to rise slightly in July.

Despite the price increase, fuel in the Czech Republic is now significantly cheaper than a year ago. Gasoline was then almost 9.70 kroner more expensive, and motorists paid 14.70 kroner per liter more for diesel than at present.
