In the early morning of July 15, 19-year-old Colombian Kevin Rodríguez was traveling with a co-worker on a motorcycle when they collided with a garbage truck on the streets of Brooklyn.
The young man who worked in a catering company suffered several injuries, an amputated arm and a blunt blow to the head.
After being admitted to Elmhurst Hospital, he was declared brain dead.
His companion was seriously injured and is recovering.
Now his family is seeking support to obtain a humanitarian visa for his father so that he can be present before he is disconnected.
“The only thing I ask of you is help, help so that your father can go there,” said his mother Sandra Yate in an interview with Univision 41 from Colombia.
“They can disconnect it at any time, but I want them to wait for their father, for their father to be there at that moment,” he added.

In Queens, friends and colleagues of Kevin, who was alone in New York, seek to help the family and support them from a distance.
Some remembered the young man as a kind person who worked every day to fulfill his American dream.
“A great person, he liked to see everyone well. A hard-working person, he did not sleep to work, he wanted to fulfill the American dream, but he could not fulfill it,” commented his friend Camilo Romaino.
Now the family fights against time and paperwork so that his father can be with him in his last moments.
While his mother looks for Kevin’s body to be transferred to Colombia.
“The only thing I need is to have my son here,” he said.
Juan Ardila, Assemblyman for the 37th district of Queens, assured that he is helping the family to speed up the procedures.
