World Bazar: The Turbulent Journey and Costly Challenges

What was that again?
The plans for a World Bazar originated in 2005. Sedat Güren was the project leader, his then partner Petra van Gaanderen always spoke about the plans and developments.

In 2009, the province of Groningen ignored the plans and in 2013 the shopkeepers’ association in Winschoten rebelled. The province finally granted an exemption, but it was overturned by the court two years later. The two felt trained for years. ‘All that hassle has already cost almost two hundred thousand euros,’ says Güren.

To make matters worse, the couple was also at odds with each other. After an argument and a lawsuit, Van Gaanderen left the project. She has been asked to comment several times, but she does not want to respond.
