NEW YORK. Hockey forward Nate Thompson announced that he is ending his career. He did so on the Twitter social network.
“From the age of four until I was 38, hockey was my life and my best friend. I am extremely grateful and thankful for all the great people I met and the friendships I made. All good things must come to an end, so thank you to everyone who they supported me on this journey,” he said.
The native of Alaska played 15 seasons in the NHL, during which he played in 844 games. He collected 164 points for 65 goals and 99 assists.
He played in nine clubs in the competition. He started his career in Boston, where he was drafted in 2003, then continued with the NY Islanders, Tampa Bay, Anaheim, Ottawa, Los Angeles, Montreal, Philadelphia and Winnipeg.
His greatest achievement is the bronze medal from the 2013 WC. He did not win the Stanley Cup, although he reached the conference finals several times.
Among Alaska natives, only Scott Gomez has played more games than him. Thompson also beat Brandon Dubinsky.
