In a move that would ignite competition in the field of regional auto manufacturing, Lucid electric car manufacturer is preparing to operate its factory in Saudi Arabia before the end of this year.
The Lucid factory is located in King Abdullah Economic City, and is the company’s first factory outside the United States.
The factory is expected to produce up to 150,000 electric cars annually by 2025, according to press statements by company officials.
Lucid expects to sell more than 20,000 electric cars in Saudi Arabia by 2025.
It is expected that Bahrain, in turn, will announce during the Integrated Industrial Partnership Conference the launch of the first Arab company to manufacture electric cars, with the participation of three countries: the UAE, Jordan and Egypt. Each of the four countries will allocate a factory for the assembly of electric cars.
The Bahraini company, Garmco, will supply the factories with aluminum sheets for the manufacture of car bodies.
The project of the Arab Alliance for the Manufacturing of Electric Vehicles aims to accelerate the manufacture of electric cars in the region, relying on alternative energy sources, in a way that enhances sustainability in resources and industries, and provides environmentally friendly solutions.
