“I think that beyond the results, which are being achieved, we feel very identified with what the team is delivering. Obviously we go through irregular moments throughout the tournament, which is normal and especially when you have injury issues or players affected by the national teams, but we are very satisfied with what we have done throughout the year and with the position we occupy in the table“, he expressed.
The coach also referred to the way in which the purple team has been able to take advantage of the Intermediate Tournamentof which he will star in the final and thanks to which he managed to prevail in the Annual Table: “Every time we have had to play this tournament we have given it a lot of importance, because it marks the future a bit regarding what campaign you need to do next in the Closing Tournament. Some teams look down on it, but at Defensor we believe that all championships should be fought in the same way“, he explained.

Méndez spoke about Sunday’s game against Peñarol for the last date of the Intermediate, knowing that it will put important points at stake but that it will not be a definitive duel: “We are really thinking about Peñarol, focusing on that, but knowing that whatever happens it will not be a defining match. It can put us in a very good position if we win, but we know that we have a final in 15 days and we analyze what is best for the team thinking about that match. Our best reinforcement is to maintain the team we have today, but we also know that it is difficult due to the financial situation of the club.
