Several Delta Air Lines passengers fainted while waiting for takeoff inside a plane in Las Vegas in temperatures of 111 °F and without air conditioning.
One of the Fox News producers, Krista Garvin, was on the flight when the pilot announced that he had to turn around and return to the gate due to multiple emergencies.
The facts were reported on Monday while the plane was on the runway at Harry Reid International Airport.
The situation worsened to the point that flight attendants ran through the aisles with oxygen tanks.
According to the reporter’s account, several passengers fainted and others relieved themselves outside the bathroom.
In addition, babies were heard crying as customers were asked to remain seated while waiting for paramedics to board the plane.
Garvin said at least five people were taken off the plane in wheelchairs.
The pilot instructed the travelers to press the call button if they had a medical emergency.
Although the passengers were given the option to leave the plane; they were warned that if they did, it could take days to get space on another flight to return to Atlanta, Georgia.
Flight staff also got sick during the four-hour shutdown period.
“It was just chaos…there was a woman walking down the hall who looked like she was going to faint and they ended up putting oxygen on him,” Garvin explained.
“There were ambulances that could be seen through the window, multiple firefighters, departments; a lot of these went to the back…a lot of people threw uppeople fainted, you know, they went to the bathroom,” the witness described.
The flight was supposed to take off at 1:40 pm Two hours later, people began to get sick.
After four hours of waiting, everyone was ordered to leave the plane.
In Garvin’s case, instructed to return the next day for a 7 a.m. flight which was also canceled. In response to the chaos, Delta apologized through written statements. The airline assured that it is investigating the circumstances that led to the extreme temperatures inside the aircraft.
Since last week, several states, mainly in the southwestern part of the United States, have suffered the effects of high temperatures that, in the worst case, have increased the thermometer to more than 120 in some demarcations.
Yesterday, in the Las Vegas area, in Nevada, the maximum was 115 °F.
