TikTok has plans to expand the users for its subscription music streaming platform, known as TikTok Music. The service has already been introduced in Indonesia and Brazil a couple of weeks ago.
The company has invited select users from Australia, Mexico, and Singapore to join a closed beta test for the service, offering them a three-month free trial.
It is a service that combines music discovery on the platform with a streaming service that offers millions of tracks from countless artists. Participants can join the beta by downloading the TikTok Music app or by visiting music.tiktok.com.
The monthly subscription cost for TikTok Music is AUD 11.99 in Australia, MXN $115 in Mexico and US$9.90 in Singapore. Additionally, there are discounted subscription plans for college students and family plans that allow up to six accounts.

It offers import from music libraries, downloads for offline listening, collaborative playlist creation, real-time lyrics viewing, and track search by lyrics. It also includes a Shazam-like feature to identify nearby songs and allows subscribers to leave comments and interact with other users.
Although there is no US launch date yet, ByteDance, the platform’s parent company, has filed trademark applications for the service in Australia and the US, indicating its intention to launch it in the US in the future.
Separately, Forbes magazine reported on a licensing deal between Warner Music Group, the record label conglomerate that represents the likes of Radiohead, AC/DC and Madonna, and the popular Chinese short video app.
This multi-year deal is intended to increase revenue for Warner Music artists and songwriters by leveraging TikTok’s large audience of more than 1 billion social media users.
While the financial terms of the deal have not been disclosed, the intent of this alliance is to benefit the label’s artists and songwriters by unlocking new marketing and revenue-generating opportunities through the platform.

The scope of the license agreement covers the collection of Warner Recorded Music and Warner Chappell Music, which includes TikTok Music, the social media platform’s premium streaming service, the CapCut video editor and the commercial music library.
With the above, TikTok has proven to be an influential platform in the music industry, driving the success of numerous songs through viral trends. With partnerships with major record labels, it seeks to compete with established streaming services like Spotify, Apple Music, and Amazon Music.
In 2021, TikTok became the first non-US app to reach 2 billion downloads worldwide, surpassing popular platforms like Facebook and Instagram in terms of global reach.
