The family cat Fox was brutally killed and found in two parts on a path. The owner received the heartbreaking message at work from a neighbor. Fox’s death has shocked the local community, and the owner has chosen not to tell his youngest daughter that the cat has been killed, so as not to ruin her holiday. Despite the fact that the police initially said there was no point in reporting the case, a police report was registered on 19 July after support from the local community. Nittedal’s mayor Inge Solli (V) encourages people to report if they have seen anything related to animal abuse in the municipality. Show more
The cuddly and sociable family cat Fox managed to live with his family for approx. nine years, before it was killed just 100 meters from the peaceful neighborhood of Likollen in Nittedal.
The owner of Fox, who wishes to remain anonymous, tells VG that he received the heartbreaking phone call at work.
– It was a neighbor who called me at work and told me that she thought he had found my cat. She said I should bring someone with me, because it was a horrible sight. He was cut in two, says the owner.
– It is absolutely terrible that there are people who can do something like that. You have to be pretty screwed up in the head to carry out such an action, he adds.

Fox had been missing for about a week when a neighbor of the owner found the pet killed.
– He is not usually gone, so we have been looking for him. My wife and daughters have suffered a lot. We just thought he’d wandered into a garage or something, because that’s happened to cats in the past.
Didn’t dare tell her daughter everything
The owner did not dare to tell the daughters at first what had really happened.
– My youngest daughter is on holiday so I haven’t told her that Fox is dead because I don’t want to spoil her holiday. I have told my eldest daughter that the cat is dead, but not everything, he says.
Nevertheless, the eldest daughter is said to have found out what horrors should have befallen Fox.
– It is heavy. I didn’t dare to say that there were people who had done it, but it has completely taken off here in Nittedal, so she found out about it in the end. She texted me last night asking why I hadn’t told her the cat was split in half. She was very upset and shocked that someone could do something like that.
Police reported the incident
The owner contacted the police as soon as he was informed by a local vet that this was not an animal attack.
– When I found him, I first thought he had been taken by an animal, but it was a clean cut. I called my cousin who is a vet and contacted a local vet here in Nittedal. Both told me this was not an animal, so I called the police. They said at first that there was no point in reporting because it would just be dismissed.
On Wednesday, the owner nevertheless reported the matter, after what he describes as massive support from the local community.
The police confirm that they have received the police report.
– We can confirm that we received a report a few hours ago. As of now, we have received information about the incident, that the cat has been found and what it looked like. If there are people who have done it, it is serious, but it is far too early for the police to determine what has happened here, says
Police attorney in the East police district Alf Robin Gundersen Minothi.
Get support
The owner greatly appreciates all the supportive messages he receives.
– Everyone thinks it’s absolutely terrible, people get very involved when someone is so mean to animals. It’s hard for people to understand that someone could do something like that.
Mayor of Nittedal, Inge Hallgeir Solli (V), says that it is sad that such an incident has taken place in the municipality.
– It is very sad that something like this happens in our neighbourhood. It is assumed that it is safe to have pets. It is sad for both owners and animals that such things happen. Especially the animals, who do not deserve such treatment, says Solli.
– Nittedal is generally a safe place to travel. We hope that this is an isolated case, so people can feel safe about having pets, he adds.

The mayor encourages people to report if they have seen anything.
– I also hope that the case can be clarified, who has done it and what has happened, so that this can be prevented from happening again. It is encouraged to report if you have seen something or see something afterwards, which is mistreatment of animals.
The owner of Fox also has an appeal for people with animals in the municipality.
– Take care of your animals, there are crazy people out there.
