The government is committed to protecting Hungarian university students and researchers, and they should not be disadvantaged by the illegal decisions of the European Commission, said Balázs Hankó.
At the online meeting, the state secretary informed the rectors of the universities that until June 30, 2024, all universities, including the students and teachers of the institutions that changed the model, will continue to be able to participate in international cooperation. The decision made by the Board of Trustees of the Tempus Public Foundation on July 13, 2023 to increase the internationalization frameworks and financial resources of certain universities serves this purpose.
Balázs Hankó highlighted:
the existing mobility frameworks and financial resources are available to ensure that the university’s needs are fully realized by June 30 of next year.
In connection with this, the board of trustees continuously evaluates and provides the additional needs for the universities.
He emphasized:
they want to further increase the number of participants, since in 2019 eight thousand, and ten thousand students and instructors participated in internationalization programs in 2022.
The goal is that by 2030, the number of participants in mobility programs will increase to 20,000 people each year.
During the briefing, Balázs Hankó said that the board of trustees had also made a decision on his applications for the period after June 30, 2024. During the meeting, applications from universities maintained by public interest trust foundations were also evaluated, with which, according to the decision of the European Council at the end of last year, the Tempus Public Foundation cannot currently make legal commitments.
