The State Duma adopted in its third and final reading a bill that raises by five years the age limit for remaining in the mobilization reserve for a number of citizens with military ranks, TASS reported.
The document was brought to the plenary hall by a group of deputies led by the chairman of the defense committee in the Duma, Andrey Kartapolov, in November last year. The Military Duty and Military Service Act sets new age limits for citizens with the ranks of soldiers, sailors, sergeants, warrant officers, warrant officers and midshipmen to remain in the reserve. The age limit for those persons subject to military service who belong to the first category is increased from 35 to 40 years, for the second category – from 45 to 50 years, and for the third category – from 50 to 55 years.
Accordingly, the age limit for staying in the mobilization reserve is also increased. According to the current norms, the maximum age for staying in the reserve corresponds to the maximum age for staying in the reserve established for the citizens of the second category of the reserve. Now for citizens with the military rank of senior officer it will be 65 years (today in most cases it is 60 years), for those with the military rank of junior officer – 60 years (today 55 years), and for those with other ranks – 55 years (today 45 years). The age limit for the mobilization reserve for citizens from the reserve of military ranks of senior officers remains 70 years.
The new norms will enter into force on January 1, 2024. A transition period is planned until January 1, 2028, so that citizens from the reserve will be gradually transferred to a pension. Thus, citizens who will turn 50 in 2024 will remain in the reserve until the age of 51, and those who will turn 50 in 2025 – until the age of 52. Citizens who will turn 50 in 2026 will remain in the reserve until age 53, and in 2027 until age 54. From January 1, 2028, all citizens with the military ranks of soldiers, sailors, sergeants, sergeants, ensigns and midshipmen will remain in the reserve (respectively in the mobilization personnel reserve) until reaching the age of 55.
