Indo-Pacific Foreign Ministers Express Concern over Tensions on Korean Peninsula

Foreign ministers from the Indo-Pacific region adopted a statement from the chairman of the ASEAN Regional Security Forum expressing concern over tensions on the Korean Peninsula.

After the Foreign Ministers’ Meeting held in Jakarta, Indonesia, the ASEAN Regional Security Forum said in a chairman’s statement that it “expresses concern” about North Korea’s intercontinental ballistic missile and ICBM launches on the 12th.

“We reaffirm our commitment to fully implement all relevant UN Security Council resolutions on North Korea’s ballistic missiles,” he said.

The ASEAN Regional Security Forum is the only multilateral security consultative body in the region in which North Korea participates. All of the 10 ASEAN countries, including South and North Korea, the United States, Japan, China and Russia, participate in issues related to the Korean Peninsula and neighboring countries.

At an earlier ASEAN foreign ministers’ meeting, ministers quickly issued a statement condemning North Korea’s ICBM launch.
