Barbados: The West Indies squad for the second cricket test against India has been announced. West Indies made only one change from the team that suffered a miserable defeat in the first Test. Batting at number three in the first Test, the disappointed young batsman Raymond Reefer was dropped from the Windies team. In the first Test, Reefer was out for three runs in the first innings and 11 runs in the second innings.
The Desmond Haynes-led selection committee replaced Reefer with bowling all-rounder Kevin Simclair in the squad for the second Test. But the referee has been kept with the team as a substitute in case of injury. Simclair is an off-spinner who has been brilliant in ODIs for West Indies. Simclair took 11 wickets in seven matches for West Indies. In the 18 first-class matches he has played so far, Simclair averages 29 in batting and 23.98 in bowling.
Simclair’s performance against Bangladesh A team earlier this year earned him a place in the team. Simclair took 13 wickets in three matches against Bangladesh. Rahkeem Cornwall was retained in the squad for the second Test despite returning ill on the second day of the first Test. Cornwall has regained its athleticism. The pace line consists of Alsari Joseph, Jason Holder and Kemar Roach. Apart from Cornwall, Jomal Warrican is also in the team as a spinner.
