Jafar, Ursula, Scar or someone else?
Falling in love with positive characters is quite simple – they have the qualities that most viewers admire. What about villains? why do “bad guys” often evoke almost more sympathy from the audience than positive main characters from all sides? According to psychologists, the cause may be sympathy and empathy. Many villains in cartoons, TV shows, movies, etc. became so because they were humiliated, offended, rejected. Almost every person has such a painful and traumatic experience, and therefore, while reading or watching, we involuntarily associate ourselves with a negative character and begin to feel annoyed at the good people – they say, life was much easier for them. In addition, as the researchers note, most of the “bad guys” have amazing charisma and attractiveness. These are smart, ambitious and talented people who have gone astray, which arouses involuntary interest in the audience, intrigues and makes them want to know the story of the villain better.
There are many charming villains in Disney cartoons – only Scar from The Lion King is worth something. Take our quiz and find out which one you have something in common with.
