Chinese Foreign Minister Qin Gang has not appeared in public since June 25, missing important international events.
The head of Chinese diplomacy, Qin Gang, mysteriously disappeared after a meeting on June 25 with representatives of the Russian Federation, Vietnam and Sri Lanka. All negotiations were held publicly in Beijing, writes Financial Times.
So, Russia was represented by Deputy Foreign Minister Andrey Rudenko. The Chinese diplomatic mission reported that the diplomats discussed bilateral relations and issues that are of “mutual interest” for China and Russia.
On July 10, China was scheduled to host EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell, who was about to meet with Qin Gang. However, the visit was canceled as Beijing warned the visitor that it would not be able to receive him on the scheduled dates.
The second mysterious story happened the next day, July 11th. The Chinese Foreign Minister missed the meeting of ASEAN Foreign Ministers in Indonesia. Then the department explained that the 57-year-old diplomat was forced to stay in the country due to “health problems.” Wang Yi, the head of the office of the foreign affairs commission of the Central Committee of the Communist Party, went there instead.
On July 17, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning, commenting on the disappearance of the head of Chinese diplomacy, said that she had no information about when Qin would return to work.
It is noteworthy that after taking office as foreign minister in late December, Qin held meetings and negotiations almost daily.
The media do not exclude that the official was caught complicit in a crime or became involved in a scandal, which is why they decided to remove him from the public plane.
Earlier it was reported that China supported the exit of the Armed Forces of Ukraine to the borders of 1991 and the complete liberation of Ukraine from the occupying forces.
And the US Secretary of State, during his visit to China, discussed in detail with the Chinese leadership the war of the Russian Federation against Ukraine. After negotiations Blinken noticedthat China is finding it increasingly difficult to adhere to its current position on the war in Ukraine.
