Minister BUMN Erick Thohir satirized PT Vale Indonesia Tbk. According to him, the company has been operating in Indonesia for a long time.
But unfortunately he said, the company did not accelerate its investment in the country. New investment, said Erick, they accelerated when nickel became the prima donna.
Because of that problem, Erick wants BUMN mining holding MIND ID to become the controlling shareholder of Vale.
“Yes, that’s all still being discussed, but of course when Vale has been in Indonesia for a long time, it doesn’t accelerate its investment, only now when nickel explodes, new,” he said as quoted from detik.com, Monday (17/7).
“Try from the beginning like that. We have been hampered for decades downstream. We are sending raw goods to the whole world. When will we be rich? So don’t come back when the momentum is big, just competing, so there’s no commitment. We’re not We must also have targets for our nation,” Erick continued.
Erick Thohir said that having a larger portion in Vale Indonesia could allow Indonesia to have a mining company on par with other countries.
“We wish that Vale could have a bigger portion, and there is relinquish, so that it is also on par with other mining companies. But this is still a negotiation right,” he said.
Erick also confirmed that SOEs are ready to take Vale shares. Moreover, he said, BUMN now have money.
“Yes, whatever it is. BUMN have money. Don’t say BUMN don’t have money now. We have net income more or less IDR 250 trillion. So there is money,” said Erick.
