Instagram recently released an app called “Threads” which is quickly gaining immense popularity among users. Although there is controversy surrounding this application because of its resemblance to the Twitter service, it turns out that there is another application that also uses the same name as Instagram’s Threads.
This “other” Threads app has actually been released since 2019 and has similar functionality to the Slack app. Namely as a chat platform in the work environment. Many people mistakenly install the Slack-like Threads app thinking it is Instagram’s Threads app.

Interestingly, the Slack-like Threads application has achieved high popularity by recording more than 880,000 downloads in the period July 6 to July 12 on iOS alone. This causes confusion and misunderstanding among users.
To avoid such misunderstandings, application developers Threads Slack-like ones provide information in their app descriptions that they are “not associated with Instagram.” They also wrote a similar disclaimer on their Twitter profile stating, “We have no affiliation with Meta. However, you can still use our app!”
To date, there are no known notifications or objections from Slack-like Threads regarding Instagram’s use of the same name for their new service. This situation raises questions about the use of application names and copyrights in an increasingly complex digital world.
With its popularity growing steadily, it will be interesting to see how Instagram and the developers of the Slack-like app Threads will tackle this issue in the future. Will there be legal action or an agreement between the two, or will they continue to operate separately without interfering with each other?
