Albert Camus: At the Heart of History – A Europe 1 Studio Podcast by Virginie Girod

Virginia Girod
SAISON 2022 – 2023

Immerse yourself in “At the Heart of History” by Albert Camus, one of the greatest French authors, told by historian Virginie Girod, in two unpublished episodes. Albert Camus grew up in the poor neighborhoods of Algiers. Thanks to his teacher, who saw in him an intellectual potential to be exploited, Albert had access to a good education. In the 1930s, the young man became passionate about writing and literature. He discovers the fury of writing and the possibility of making his voice heard. While in French Algeria, the colonists opposed those who were called the natives at the time, Camus began to dream of equality. He engages with the Algerian Communist Party and in favor of the Arabs, who wish to obtain French citizenship. But it is in journalism that Albert Camus finds a way to make his voice heard. And this new passion will lead him to Paris, where he now works for the Paris-Soir newspaper.
