Demi Vollering is the only leader of SD Worx in the Tour de France Femmes. The 26-year-old rider has a few luxury servants at her disposal in the French cycling race.
In addition to Vollering, Mischa Bredewold, Elena Cecchini, Lotte Kopecky, Christine Majerus, Marlen Reusser and Lorena Wiebes are part of the SD Worx Tour team. The Dutch formation has already booked 43 victories this season.
SD Worx is aiming for the overall victory in the Tour with Vollering. She finished second behind Annemiek van Vleuten in 2022, but wants to beat her big competitor this year. “Last year, Van Vleuten was still a size too big, but Demi has proven in every respect that she has made strides,” says sporting director Danny Stam.
Vollering and Van Vleuten were regularly involved in a fierce battle this season. In May, Van Vleuten won La Vuelta nine seconds ahead of her compatriot. Vollering was the strongest in the Amstel Gold Race and the Tour of Flanders, among others.
Van Vleuten hopes to win the Tour again in her farewell year. The forty-year-old world champion won the Giro Donne for the fourth time this month.
The Tour de France Femmes starts on July 23 in Clermont-Ferrand and ends a week later in Pau. The 2024 edition will start with three stages in the Netherlands.
