Freiburg Murder Trial: Accused Admits Guilt and Expresses Deep Regret

Freiburg (dpa / lsw) – As announced, the accused in a Freiburg murder trial admitted his guilt before the regional court on Monday. He is ashamed and deeply regrets what happened, the 63-year-old said in a statement read by his lawyer. He destroyed the life of the person who was best for him. In January, he indiscriminately and aimlessly stabbed his ex-partner and her mother with a knife; the 59-year-old died.

The lawyer continued to say that the 30-year-old former girlfriend, who survived the attack with life-threatening injuries, had a deep scar that would not heal. “Maybe it will help her that I will be in prison for years.”

The public prosecutor assumes that the German wanted to take revenge for the separation. The 63-year-old’s statement said he only wanted to talk to the woman. Suddenly he had the knife in his hand and stabbed. He no longer remembers the exact procedure. “I quit, I didn’t want that,” the defender read. “I knew it was all over now.” Prison is hell for his client because he thinks about what he has committed almost every second. It was the opposite of what he actually wanted.

On Monday afternoon, the 30-year-old should speak as a joint plaintiff. Her lawyer successfully applied for the woman to testify in court via video. She presented several certificates from psychiatrists, according to which a direct encounter between her client and the accused could result in serious psychological damage.
