TRIESTE – “This is our first stadium and we have to thank you who came here to share this which will remain a memorable and special moment for us”. Damiano’s message from Maneskin, a rock band capable of filling the Nereo Rocco stadium again for a live show almost ten years after the last concert, is addressed to over 25,000 spectators, yet it adapts much more to the alleged “magic moment” in Trieste than you can imagine. The inscription Stardust still stands out at the Valmaura stadium, agency of Simone Giacomini, the former patron of Triestina, of which an important share is in the hands of the band’s manager, Fabrizio Ferraguzzo. The theme, among many others, is precisely this: Trieste finds the great live shows again, but will it be able to present them again without a decade having to pass? Will the Municipality, together with the new Stars and Stripes property of the Union, open to concerts, or not? Rumors tell of important “closures” for the future, but we’ll see.
“I don’t want to wait any longer”
“This piece serves to shut up all the crap who say we do covers” shouts Damiano when he intones Beggin’, and the fans, among the unbearable screens of thousands of mobile phones (we know, ours is irreversible nostalgia, like a boomer ) and the midsummer heat that also warms the beers, share the magical ritual of rock with the band. Most of the very young people present at the stadium do not know its exact definition, but rock, at the beginning of the 21st century, is also and above all represented by them. With all due respect to those who would like them too young or those who judge them because they are too old. Halfway through the concert the red lights illuminate the band in the middle of the meadow, then “spring comes home, the cold here makes itself felt, I don’t want to wait any longer” there, among the people, their people, that audience that adores these guys like no other.
Music makes sense of things
At 10.30pm cell phones look like fireflies in the dark. The emotion lasts just the time for a couple of songs, then thirty (yes, more or less) escort Damiano along the corridor that takes him back to the Rocco stage. They are different points of view, like going to the moon with Kepler’s writings, watching the rotation of the earth from another location: but the Maneskins also have this, or maybe it’s part of what is built at the table, or maybe not . No one, apart from Pavanel’s Triestina in the final of the playoffs to go to Serie B and lost against Pisa, had managed to fill the Valmaura stadium again as did the rock band of the moment. While waiting for the halberd red colors to shine again (and to pay the debts for using the stadium in past years), it is the music that gives meaning to the structure.
Let’s not wait another ten years
Because full hotels and that “a little mess” they made, four young people who couldn’t wait to be able to say “this is the last piece of the show”. In reality, a bit like at Wimbledon this afternoon – where Alcaraz’s victory puts an end to the Djokovic era – many hope that the era of great live performances in Trieste can begin again. The mayor, the aldermen, former aldermen, all have their work cut out for them. Trieste hadn’t organized a live at the Rocco for almost ten years. It would be nice not to have to wait as many.
