Chamber of mines: the priorities of the renewed president

  • Burkina Chamber of Mines
  • Adama Soro rebels for a second term

For a successful first term (2021-2023) at the head of the Burkina Chamber of Mines (CMB), Adama Soro was re-elected for a second two-year term (2023-2025). This re-election took place on July 14, 2023 in Ouagadougou during the 10th ordinary general meeting. He heads a board of 25 members. A fine connoisseur of the Burkinabè mining sector, he revealed for his first media release under this second mandate that mining activity was resilient in 2022, despite the security impact that Burkina Faso is experiencing, the impact of Covid- 19 and inflation due to the Ukrainian crisis. But a resilience that hangs on a razor’s edge because insecurity has a serious impact on mining production, which fell in 2022. Gold production fell by 13% as insecurity led to the closure of three companies mining. The closure of the Perkoa mine led to a drop in zinc production of 71.8%. Loss of jobs of 2,000 workers.

A mandate under the sign of the reconquest of the mining sector

Faced with these challenges, Adama Soro intends to provide appropriate solutions so that the mining sector regains its former glory and continues to play its role as the engine of growth for the Burkinabè economy. On a firm and serious tone, he hammered several times in his speech that he places his mandate under the sign of the reconquest of the mining sector. He has already congratulated the government, which is also making the recovery of mining activity its priority through these military actions aimed at securing the country. Adama Soro and his office intend in the next few days to start talks with the government for the resumption of the activities of the mines in stop and the securing of the mines in operation.
