Would you like a full-fledged electric car with a reasonable range and a basic price under half a million crowns? So far we are unlucky on the European market, but the Chinese can buy a surprisingly cheap Volkswagen ID.3 on the domestic market for less than 400,000 crowns.
One of the biggest problems of electromobility is the fact that the most modern electric cars are significantly more expensive than alternative conventional combustion models. However, the situation is not the same everywhere in the world. The German automotive magazine Auto Bild has revealed that Volkswagen is selling the ID.3 electric car in China for less than half the price of the new facelifted version in the Czech Republic.
The official Czech price of the new Volkswagen ID.3 today starts from 999,900 CZK, while in China you can buy it from 125,900 yuan. This translates to approximately 15,900 euros, i.e. roughly 378,500 CZK. However, Volkswagen adds that it currently has a discount event in China for the first 7,000 cars, and subsequently the price of the ID.3 will increase to the standard 162,888 yuan, approximately 22,500 euros or 535,500 CZK.
Even so, the Chinese can buy a new “ID-three” for about half the money compared to European markets. The main reason is the real positives of car production in China, which is significantly cheaper for automakers than in the rest of the world. The fact that the vast majority of suppliers are local partners and the prices of labor and energy are also lower contributes to the discounting of new electric cars.
At the same time, Volkswagen is facing strong competition in China from new domestic manufacturers as well as globally successful Tesla. In order to be competitive, they must push the final prices of their electric cars to an absolute minimum. And if you are wondering whether you can unofficially import a Chinese ID.3 to the Czech Republic, unfortunately, no. It is homologated exclusively for China and cannot be registered in Europe.
