Carlos Alcaraz Wins Wimbledon 2023 Men’s Singles Final, Defeating Novak Djokovic in an Epic Battle

London

Carlos Alcaraz managed to win Wimbledon 2023 after beating Novak Djokovic in the men’s singles final. The Spaniard overcame the defending champion in a fierce battle that lasted almost five hours.

Competing on Center Court, Sunday (16/7) evening WIB, Alcaraz won with a score of 1-6, 7-6 (8-6), 6-1, 3-6, 6-4. Initially, Djokovic started the match well. She took an early 5-0 lead before closing the first set 6-1 in 35 minutes.

But Alcaraz gave hard resistance in the next two sets. The first seed spent 86 minutes to win the second set 7-6 (8-6). In the third set, she took the lead after winning 6-1 in an exhausting hour.

But Djokovic, winner of 23 grand slams, is not giving up. In the fourth set, he managed to win convincingly 6-3, forcing Alcaraz to play until the fifth set.

In the decisive round, there was a lot of drama. Alcaraz lost the advantage 40-30 and trailed Djokovic 0-1 earlier, but then it was Djokovic’s turn to throw away a similar advantage and Alcaraz equalized it at 1-1.

Alcaraz then took a 2-1 lead, sending Djokovic losing serve and hitting the edge of the net with his racket to receive a warning from the referee. Alcaraz then stayed away until 3-1 after not giving Djokovic a single point in the fourth game.

Djokovic managed to close the gap to 2-4 after leading 40-0 earlier, but fell behind to 2-4 in the next game. Djokovic added another to make it 3-4, but Alcaraz also pulled away again to 5-3.

Djokovic did not give up and appeared dominant in game nine to stretch his breath to 4-5. Even though he looks tired at 36 compared to Alcaraz who is 16 years younger, his fighting spirit is still palpable.

But in the end Wimbledon got a new champion. After competing fiercely until 30-30, Alcaraz took the following two points to lock in the fifth set with a score of 6-4, as well as ending the duel that lasted 4 hours 46 minutes.

This is Alcaraz’s second grand slam title after the 2022 US Open, as well as his first on grass. As for Djokovic, he failed to equal Roger Federer’s record eight Wimbledon titles, and was stuck at seven.
