In South Korea, aid workers have managed to recover five bodies from a car tunnel that was flooded by storms. The rescuers are still looking for other occupants of vehicles that became trapped underground by the water.
South Korea has been dealing with severe storms in recent days. The 685-meter-long tunnel quickly filled up when a nearby river overflowed. Footage from surveillance cameras showed that about fifteen vehicles were surprised by the water, including a bus.
The five bodies that have now been recovered all came from the bus. Earlier, another dead person was recovered and nine people could be rescued. Eleven people are still missing. The search for them continues.
Floods and landslides
It was previously announced that floods and landslides in the past week have cost the lives of at least 26 people. Another ten people are missing in other places.
The heavy rains forced about 5,500 people to leave their homes. More than 25,000 households lost power. About 200 roads have been closed, a large part of the train traffic in the country has been disrupted and several flights have been cancelled.
More rain is expected today.
