Applications for the “Coverage” program in the municipality of Ioannito

The Municipality of Ioannita is proceeding with the implementation of the “Coverage” housing assistance program within the framework of the program contract it has signed with the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs.

The program aims to utilize private homes to house vulnerable young people.

The Municipality, with its participation in the program, proves in practice its solidarity with those in need and creates the conditions for dealing with precarious housing.

As the Mayor Dimitris Papageorgiou mentioned during a press conference, the Municipality of Ioannito from 2020 participates in the European Federation of Organizations active in the fight against homelessness.

At the same time, seeking to improve the living conditions in the Dormitory for the homeless, efforts were made to strengthen it with logistical equipment.

He noted that the Municipality is taking advantage of the “Housing and Work for the Homeless” program that has been successfully implemented since 2022 in collaboration with the Society for Psychosocial Research and Intervention.

41 beneficiaries participate in the program, of which 11 are children. These people were living in a state of homelessness or in precarious living conditions.

The program, in addition to housing, also provides psychosocial support, job training, counseling and job subsidies. Out of a total of 20 job seekers, it managed to integrate 10 people into the labor market, 5 of whom participate in an employment program implemented by the Public Employment Service (formerly OAED), 4 in subsidized work from the “Housing and Work” Program and one out of schedule.

Now, as the Mayor pointed out, the “Coverage” program is starting with the aim of reducing the number of fellow citizens living in precarious living conditions.

Its budget for the Municipality of Ioannita amounts to 572,250 euros and its purpose is to provide housing assistance to vulnerable young people, aged 25 to 39, beneficiaries of the Minimum Guaranteed Income who do not own their own home.

“The commitment of the Municipal Authority and my own is to continue in every way the support to our economically vulnerable fellow citizens” underlined the Mayor.

The Deputy Mayor of Social Policy Christina Kotsanti underlined that “for the Municipality, the support of people who are economically and socially vulnerable is very important”.

Referring to the new program, she emphasized that it is another opportunity to support these people.

The call for beneficiaries will be open for the next ten days. The supporting documents are submitted to the Protocol of the Municipality.

“It is very important for us to ensure housing for people in need. The selection for inclusion in the program is made through scoring determined by the Ministry. We invite them to submit their applications and receive support” Mrs. Kotsanti underlined.
