GORREDIJK According to the latest count (2021) of the RIVM, the municipality of Opsterland has relatively the most cases of infected tick bites within Friesland.

In 2021, 25,600 Lyme disease infections will be detected across the country. In Opsterland, a red ring or spot caused by the Lyme bacteria has been detected more than a hundred times.

For the first time since the first measurement in 1994, the number of Lyme disease diagnoses is stable. During the last measurement in 2021, the number of bites from a tick infected with Lyme was just as high as in the penultimate measurement in 2017. Since 1994, RIVM has conducted a survey among general practitioners every four or five years to map the number of Lyme diagnoses. With each poll this number increased, during the last measurement the trend changed.

The greatest number of diagnoses was found in the north and east. Every year about 1.5 million ticks bite someone in the Netherlands. This leads to Lyme complaints in two to three out of a hundred people.

Op drawing radar the number of tick bite reports has risen sharply in the past week. Many tick bites are also expected in the coming weeks. It is extra important to check for ticks after visiting a forest, dune, park or garden.
